i’ve been seeing so many videos of concerts on youtube from chicago’s “underground” scene. bands like Good Flying Birds (Indiana, but pretty established in CHI) , TV Buddha, Parking (Kentucky, but pretty engrained in CHI), Sharp Pins, etc. these videos don’t need to be anything crazy or special, but it just got me thinking about how STL has this major party focus that is engrained into the instagram story format. very impermanent. I want to preserve really cool shows with taping audio and video, and i think it furthers my previous blog posts about moving away from partying and instagramming. i want people to formulate a community that actually DOES preserve and archive, and cares about music at shows. seeing these videos is so inspiring, because they’re MY AGE, yet for whatever reason, their online presence is already so thorough and engaging. not from bullshit content farming, or unserious, house-party-poster instagram stories, but just longer format, more “normal” or god forbid “artsy” video formats. seeing this in other local scenes that are connecting to one another is so cool. i want to be a part of it badly, i want to go to shows and see awesome music from people that i can feasibly speak to and learn from and with. can all of this change happen from just me? no clue but i want to try. if you have any thoughts of any kinds, email me @ goomanstl@gmail.com
